Next stop was the middle level of Enoshima's shrines.
There are a number of buildings, komainu and stone lanterns here. The area looked closed up on this day. Not many people here.
The shrines here are some of the oldest on the island. This area was chosen back in 853. Turtles are a recurring motif. The pyramid with the three triangles is the Hojo clan family crest, shoguns during the Kamakura period.
The main shrine here is Nakatsunomiya. It was originally constructed in 1689.
The second Munakata kami, Ichikishimahime no mikoto, is enshrined here.
It's a very colorful shrine, with komainu and baku wood carvings.
And Gozuryu, that trouble making white dragon, stirring up waves.
I can't help but think this komainu is laughing.
And time for one more escalator. Because to see all the levels of Enoshima, there are a lot of stairs.
