Food for Friday: Sakae Sushi
One of the things I missed being able to do was take a cooking lesson from the amazing Elizabeth Andoh. She was going to teach us how to make a hanami bento.
But lucky for me, not long ago we found a place that makes special sushi that would work really well for hanami or parties or just having something good to eat when you don't feel like cooking. So let's check out Sakae Sushi in Gardena, Calif.
I had no idea what to expect. I'm constantly looking for new sushi places and came across Sakae Sushi at the intersection where a number of good Asian restaurants and markets are located. I was a little surprised to find this was sushi take-out. With a very basic menu of six different kinds of sushi. That's it.
You decide how many pieces you want and what kind. You pay and they make up your order. No drinks, nothing else.
So we decided to have a little picnic at a nearby park. Sakae Sushi smartly wraps their box with their menu.
Inside are inari, mackerel (saba) nigiri, shrimp (ebi) nigiri, egg (tamago) roll, and futomaki.
This is sushi. Fresh and real.
It tasted as good as it looks. Definitely going back again.
Sakae Sushi is at 1601 W Redondo Beach Blvd #112
Gardena, CA 90247-3244. Actually it's located on Denker just off of Redondo Beach Blvd. It is on my dining out map on the right side of this blog.
